'Boosting Immunity' Series
Learning more about your own immune
system benefits you on two fronts. For those who face illness, which we
all do at some time or another, knowledge of the immune system can help
you to respond to your illness, to help your body's own healing
mechanisms in responding to your illness. For those of you who are
currently healthy, knowledge of your immune system can help you to
maintain you health, and help you to avoid practices that might lead to
illness in your future. For anyone living in an increasingly toxic
world, knowledge of your immune system and detoxification can help you
respond to the toxins you encounter in everyday life. The choice is up
to you. But today's choices may well determine your comfort and well
being in the days ahead.
The immune system is a complex of organs--highly
specialized cells and even a circulatory system separate from blood
vessels-all of which work together to clear infection from the body. The
functions of Lymphatic system include the absorbtion of excess fluid and
its return to the blood stream, absorption of fat and the immune system
function.
The organs of the immune system, positioned
throughout the body, are called lymphoid organs. The word "lymph" in
Greek means a pure, clear stream--an appropriate description considering
its appearance and purpose. Lymphatic vessels and lymph nodes are the
parts of the special circulatory system that carries lymph, a
transparent fluid containing white blood cells, chiefly lymphocytes.
The lymph nodes contain lymphocytes (white blood
cells) which help destroy foreign bacteria or other harmful cells.
The lymph nodes may become enlarged or swollen when they fight an
infection since they must produce additional white blood cells. The
two major classes of lymphocytes are B-cells and T-cells. B-cells
produce antibodies that circulate in the blood and lymph streams and
attach to foreign antigens to mark them for destruction by other immune
cells. T-cells , which also patrol the blood and
lymph for foreign invaders, they attack and destroy diseased cells they
recognize as foreign.
The immune system needs the essential nutrients
and body detoxification to function and stay healthy. There are many
signals, signs, common medical health symptoms indicate time to
detoxify. Even if you think you are feeling good, you may be
experiencing at least one or several of the following symptoms that
shows the need for natural detoxification therapy. Some of these
symptoms can appear for a short time like: allergies, backaches, bad
breath, bad digestion, bloating, periodontal conditions, sinus
infections, skin rashes, blurred vision, coated tongue, stomach pain and
yeast infections, constipation, depression, excessive gas, excessive
mucus, fatigue, fever, food reactions, headaches, intestinal
dysfunction, irritability, joint pain, loss of appetite, low immunity,
diarrhea, early aging, excessive colds flu, memory loss, menstrual
problems, muscular pains, nausea, obnoxious odor, over-acidity.
When digestion isn't 100% complete, when
digestion isn't 100% perfect, then there's the build up of toxic matter
that gets deposited in the body. Many digestive complaints and symptoms
appear even in apparently healthy people. They frequently go undiagnosed
because these complaints are not “serious”. Symptoms such as gas,
bloating, diarrhea, constipation, belching, flatulence, food
sensitivities, indigestion, malabsorption, irritable bowel syndrome, and
the list goes on.... are so common that they are seen as normal.
Consider that a sluggish bowel can retain pounds of old toxic fecal
matter. This leads to a vicious cycle of autointoxication that taxes our
defense systems and eventually leads to more serious disease.

Good
nutrition.
“A healthy diet is absolutely essential
to maintain good immunity. Food provides our cells with the raw
materials they require to meet the body’s needs. We tend to take
nutrition for granted, believing that we’ll get along just fine, even if
we don’t consume all the nutrition we need. Yet we shouldn’t assume that
just because we live in a modern society we have adequate nutrition.
Hundreds of in-depth studies have documented that malnutrition exists in
industrialized nations today, among both the rich and poor. Widespread
nutritional factors that can compromise our immune capacity include
eating too much sugar or starch, obesity, high cholesterol, and the
regular use of alcohol. If the immune system is malnourished, it may not
have the resources needed to protect us against illness. A healthy
immune system depends on adequate amounts of vitamins, minerals, and
other important metabolic nutrients. For example, the vast majority of
our immune function is dependent on vitamin A and zinc, nutrients that
are often lacking in the modern diet.
Toxins and
pollution . The metabolic machinery of our cells is exquisitely
sensitive to many toxins that can interfere with the body’s normal
biochemical processes. Every day we are exposed to thousands (yes,
thousands) of chemicals in our food, water, and air that were
nonexistent until the Industrial Revolution of the nineteenth and
twentieth centuries. As a result, our bodies must cope with manufactured
chemicals, pesticides, heavy metals, petroleum products, and plastics
that can accumulate in our tissues and that are toxic to the immune
system. Clearing the body of these environmental toxins increases our
requirement for antioxidants and various other nutrients. Because of
these exposures, our nutritional requirements may be increased to higher
levels than we can obtain in our diet, making it important to use
nutritional supplements to remain healthy. And because of the prevalence
of these exposures, it’s also important to build detoxification into our
lifestyle. Some toxic chemicals have been documented to cause cold-like
symptoms. A committee of the World Health Organization reported that up
to 30 percent of new and remodeled buildings emit air pollutants such as
formaldehyde, asbestos, volatile chemicals, and other toxins and
allergens. The effects of these emissions can cause "sick building
syndrome." Solutions to the chemical sensitivity that may result include
avoiding the sources of exposure, detoxifying the body and, when
necessary, getting treatment from a physician trained in environmental
medicine.
The stress factor
. There is now strong data that documents the impact of stress on
immunity and susceptibility to illness. For instance, remember how many
of your friends caught colds during final exams? A report of 276
volunteers exposed to a common cold virus showed that those who had been
under stress for more than a month were most likely to get sick. In
another study, children with a history of stress and recurrent colds
were found to have lower localized immunity. Stress has also been found
to stimulate immune-suppressing chemicals such as adrenaline.
Fortunately, research has found that stress reducers such as meditation,
relaxation, guided imagery, and hypnosis can effectively enhance
immunity.” Len Saputo, M.D., and Nancy Faass, M.S.W, M.P.H "Boosting
Immunity. Creating Wellness naturally", 2002 edition.

yourself and boost your immune system.
The First Step Clear out old accumulations from the
intestinal tract. This is a critical, but easy, prerequisite for
improved digestion and assimilation. Try using a blend of healing herbs,
nutrients, and fibers to provide a natural, gentle “broom” to gradually
rejuvenate intestinal function.

The Second
Step Improve Your Digestion and
Assimilation It is not how much we eat, but how much we can fully
digest, absorb and metabolize that counts. To be well nourished is to
take into the body everything it requires, and to fully eliminate all
the resultant debris. The first of these processes is digestion. If
eating results in gas, bloating, or occasional abdominal pains, consider
digestive enzymes. By taking enzymes at the beginning of each meal, you
will more fully digest your food, increasing your available helpful
nutrients and decreasing possible exposure to antigens (food particles
that can stimulate allergic reactions). At least 25% of your resting
metabolic energy is spent on maintaining your digestive health. By using
enzymes, you can actually use less of this energy on digestion, leaving
more available to make repairs, restore normal functions, or perform
other tasks with added energy. Use Digestizon™, Digestizon Plus™ with your
meal to regulate healthy digestion. Poorly digested food
is toxic; when it sits too long, it can be absorbed and recalculated
through the body, stressing the liver and the immune system and
eventually causing disease. And if the body works too hard to digest
food, vital energy is diverted. Digestion starts in the mouth, where
salivary enzymes begin the chemical processing of food and the teeth
break it down physically. Vegetables mineralize the system. The water
contained in fruits and vegetables is important for nourishing and
cleansing. Water carries the rich cargo of nutrients into the intestines
where they are rapidly absorbed and then flushes away the wastes.

Natural Ways to Boost Your Methabolism.
- Eating breakfast is the best way to kick
starts your metabolism after a number of hours ‘fasting’ overnight.
Not only does breakfast give your mind and body the fuel it needs to
function optimally but also cranks up your metabolism so that your
body is in fat burning mode ASAP.
- Eating something every 2-4 hours will do
wonders for your metabolism. Every time you eat your metabolism
increases. After eating it drops. If you leave it too long between
meals your metabolism will just continue to drop to a point where it
is too low and you’re not burning any fat or calories. That is the
good time for Metabazon™. Eating regularly
ensures that your metabolism is continuously at an elevated level.
Avoid snacking on high calorie foods that will not only be detrimental
to your weight management but will also trigger the desire to keep on
eating! You can try the Chocamaca as a healthy snack and
substitute sugar with natural sweetener Stevia .
- Drink a lot of water. The kidneys need water
to detoxify the body. Without water the kidneys can’t do their job so
the liver steps in to help. The livers prime function is to burn fat
so if it’s off doing the kidneys work it’s obviously not doing it’s
own. Drinking water will not only free up the liver to focus on fat
burning but also cleanse the body, flush out the systems, aid
digestion and simply allow the body to function more efficiently.
Drink Pure Camu which is high in natural
vitamin C and Treasure
Tea
- Exercise! No surprise here. Aim for 3-5
sessions per week, 20-50 minutes a session. As a general rule, the
higher the intensity of the workout, the longer and greater the
metabolisms boost.
- Eat more soy protein. Soy protein has been
shown to positively affect the body’s output of powerful fat burning
thyroid hormones.
